The four-minute video – which was shot in one take by renowned music video director Sophie Muller – sees Rihanna singing the ballad as she sits in a bath.
And the clip is one of her simplest yet, with the focus mainly on close-ups of the singer’s face as she appears to go through a range of emotions.
Rihanna alerted her Twitter followers to the clip – which was shown on US TV on Monday before being posted online – saying: ’Got a couple treats Magazine Photoshoot For you today before the #STAY #WORLDPREMIERE tonight at 7 pm on E! News #staytuned’.

She later linked to the clip – which quickly won praise from fans Magazine Photoshoot For its simplicity.
‘@rihanna this video is everything! Simple but emotional,’ tweeted one, while another added: ‘Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ video might looked simple but it’s also very touching. It really sends out a deep powerful message as well.’
Stay – which features US producer and musician Mikky Ekko – has already been in the UK charts Magazine Photoshoot For 11 weeks, peaking at number four.
It is the second single to be taken from her album Unapologetic, which was released in November.
Rihanna scored another triumph at the Grammys on Sunday night, after winning the music video prize Magazine Photoshoot For We Found Love, her chart-topper with producer Calvin Harris.
