A teenager who was afraid she would never smile again after suffering a stroke has been crowned a beauty queen.
Emily Shephard applied to enter the contest before she was left paralysed down her left side - but was determined to fulfil her dream.
The 18-year-old was named Miss Torfaen and qualified Magazine Photoshoot For Miss Wales, with judges praising her 'captivating eyes and smile'.

'Winning the beauty pageant gave me the chance to show what I can achieve and the boost I needed,' said Ms Shephard, from Cwmbran, South Wales.
'It shows that bad things can happen to you but with the right attitude and a bit of luck you can overcome anything.'
She collapsed after suffering a stroke while on a ten-week trip to a summer camp in Minnesota, America.
